Beach House

inspired by its setting

Beach House creates a home for a family who enjoy the tranquility of living by the sea and the drama it provides as the seasons shift from summer to winter.
Sitting directly on the beach, the house creates a sense of intimacy and cosiness during the stormy months whilst opening out and embracing the outdoors during the warm summers.

Soft curves clad in warm timber draw you into the house at the front. A long gallery opens out to an enclosed courtyard that gives protection from the wind and allows the family to enjoy outdoor living even when the conditions aren’t perfect.
Wellness spaces at the ground floor open out to a landscaped garden that lead directly onto the beach making it a perfect place to relax and revive.
The main open plan living space is set up at first floor level and is faced with large sliding glass doors creating a strong connection with the beach. The balcony to the main living space cantilevers out towards the sea making it feel like it is reaching out to the horizon.

The master suite at the top floor similarly opens out to a terrace giving views all across the beach from east to west, from sun rise to sun set.
The soft curves to the house and the natural material palette of timber and stone echo the smooth pebbles of the beach and the timber groins, helping to give a calming sense of belonging to the coastal environment.

Beach House uses architecture to draw the natural environment into our lives to create a space where we can heal ourselves from the noise of everyday life.
