Utilising modular construction to find efficiencies in design

Our proposal in the heart of historic Southampton for 97 student bedrooms and retail space below achieved planning permission, securing value for the client across two city centre sites and optimising the efficiency of the accommodation provided within.

The scheme was designed to make use of off-site modular construction, which ensures internal build quality as well as delivering construction and programme efficiencies to our Clients.

The design also carefully considered the phasing of construction to minimise the impaction the high street, and reduce the time existing commercial units on the site would need to be closed during works.

It was important not to compromise on the final facade design and detail, so whilst the applied facade reflects the internal modules behind it responds to the local character of the area through its brick detailing and infill panels.

We are excited to see on-site developments of this project by Stelling Properties – follow the OB Architecture LinkedIn page for updates.
